“Hanna Book, Egg Cups & Dreamweaver Bookshelf” Capacity 2011
What is my capacity as a designer? I sometimes wonder how all of my very different creative endeavours could ever “fit” together, while they so fiercely compete for my focus, leaving me feeling like a frazzled parent chasing a herd of unruly children. Fortunately, I have come to realize that my love for design centers around an object’s ability to impart a story or message, and therefore– whether it be ceramics, textiles, illustration, prose, music– the medium chosen is merely the tool best suited to craft each particular message. This realization is very liberating, and allowed me to see “Capacity” as an opportunity to embrace my own potential as a maker/creator, and explore a project with many tools at the same time.
